What a 12 oz paper cup is for
The 12 oz cup is the standard latte, the regular drip coffee and the everyday cappuccino: 90 mm across the rim, 110 mm tall. If a café prints one cup size and no other, it is almost always this one, because it covers the widest part of the menu and is what most customers mean when they ask for a regular.
It is a hot-drink cup first. Single-wall board with a sleeve is the common choice; a ripple-wall or double-wall 12 oz removes the need for the sleeve entirely and is worth pricing against it if you get through enough of them. A 90 mm lid fits, and the same lid fits a 16 oz cup, which is why those two sizes are usually ordered together.
The unrolled panel is tall enough to carry real artwork — a full illustration, a repeating pattern, or a story in small type down one side — without the design being swallowed by the taper. This is the size where a printed cup does the most marketing work, simply because it is in the customer's hand the longest. Cafés, bakeries, office catering and event bars all order the 12 oz in the highest numbers.
Worth knowing before the first order: printed cups have high minimum quantities. The blank is printed on a press set up for the design, so the setup is paid for whether you order five thousand or fifty thousand, and the per-cup price falls steeply across that range. If the volume is not there yet, print a sleeve and keep the cup plain — it is the same brand on the counter at a fraction of the commitment.
