What a 12 oz double-wall cup is for
A double-wall 12 oz is the standard latte size built from two smooth boards with a sealed air gap between them. The air does the insulating, exactly as it does in a ripple cup, but the outer surface stays flat rather than fluted.
That flat outer wall is the reason to choose it over a ripple: it prints like a single-wall cup. Photographs, gradients, fine type and tight registration all hold, so a brand with a detailed identity does not have to simplify it. The trade-off is cost — a double-wall cup is typically the most expensive of the three 12 oz constructions.
No sleeve is needed, which also means nothing covers the middle of your artwork. A 90 mm lid fits, the same one the plain 12 oz and the 16 oz take. Hotels, restaurants serving coffee at the table, and brands whose packaging has to look considered rather than merely functional are the ones who specify double-wall.
The extra wall makes the cup wider on the outside for the same drink inside, and that is the detail that catches people out. Cup holders in cars, in-store dispensers, three-cup carriers and lid stackers are all cut to a diameter, and a double-wall cup may not drop into equipment a single-wall one fitted. Test one against whatever it has to sit in before ordering a pallet.
