What an 8 oz ripple-wall cup is for
The flat white and small latte size, 80 by 56 by 92 mm, with a fluted outer board. Eight ounces is the cup most likely to be carried a short distance and drunk while still very hot, so the insulation is doing real work here rather than decorating.
The practical win is that it needs no sleeve. A single-wall 8 oz cup of hot coffee is uncomfortable to hold and most cafés solve that with a separate band; a ripple wall solves it in the cup, which means one item to buy, store and print instead of two.
The flutes also grip. A cup that does not slip when a hand is wet or cold is worth more to a takeaway counter than any print on it. Design in solid colour and confident type — the ridged surface flatters both. Cafés, coffee carts and office catering.
An underrated advantage: the flutes hide damage. A smooth cup picks up scuffs and dents in a delivery bag or a storeroom and shows every one of them, while a ribbed surface absorbs the same handling and still looks new. For a café that stores cups in quantity or sends drinks out with a rider, that is worth more than it sounds.
