What an 8 oz cup sleeve is for
A tapered band for the 8 oz cup, 73.22 mm down to 60.43 mm across and 49 mm tall. It is the cheapest way to make a hot 8 oz cup holdable: a single-wall cup of fresh coffee at this size is genuinely too hot to grip, and a sleeve fixes that for pennies.
The economics are why most independents start here. Plain white cups are bought in bulk at the lowest price per unit and only the sleeve is printed, so the branded item is the smallest and cheapest part of the order and can be reprinted whenever the design changes.
Forty-nine millimetres of height is enough for a wordmark and a line of small print, but not for a paragraph — treat it as a label rather than a page. Keep type inside the middle band so the taper does not cut it. Cafés, coffee carts, offices and pop-ups.
The cost of a sleeve is not only the sleeve. It is a second item to store, a second thing to order and run out of, and a second movement for whoever makes the drink — a second or two per cup, which at a morning rush is real. None of that outweighs the saving at low volume, but it is the reason cafés eventually move to an insulated cup as they grow.
