What an ice-cream cup sleeve is for
A short, wide band for the ice-cream cup — 79.55 mm down to 68.64 mm across but only 30 mm tall. It is much shallower in proportion than any of the coffee sleeves, which makes it a belly band around the middle of the cup rather than a grip covering most of it.
It exists for two reasons. Cold, wet cups are slippery and the paper band gives a dry surface to hold; and a plain scoop cup with a printed band looks finished in a way a plain cup does not, at a cost that lets a small shop brand every serve.
Thirty millimetres is a narrow strip, so the design has to be horizontal by nature: a wordmark, a flavour name, a rule and a repeated motif. Anything stacked will not fit. Gelaterias, frozen yoghurt counters, dessert shops and ice-cream vans.
It can carry the flavour as well as the brand. Many small shops print one band per flavour, or print a plain band and add a stamp or a small sticker, so the cup says what is in it without a separate label. Because the run is short and cheap, the flavour list can change with the season in a way a printed cup never could.
