What a handshake buckle tray is for
A glueless tray whose corners shake hands: each end wall carries a wide buckle reaching past the middle of the side wall, so the two coming from opposite ends overlap and each one drops its tab through the other slot. Two parts hold each other rather than one holding both.
That is the strongest of the glueless corners, and the reason to choose this over the mortise or the four-fold. A tray that will be filled heavily, carried by a delivery rider, or handled repeatedly keeps its corners here longest. With no glue and no tucked flap anywhere, it also flat-packs completely.
The overlap is visible on the inside of each corner, so it is a working tray rather than a presentation one. Takeaway, delivery, catering transport and anywhere trays are stacked full are where it earns the extra board.
Because nothing is glued or tucked, it knocks down flat and goes back up again, which makes it the tray to choose where trays are returned and reused — a catering run, an event, a kitchen that moves stock between sites. The overlapping corners do collect crumbs on the inside, so most users run a liner over the base rather than washing them.
