What a folding wheel box is for
A glueless tray that locks itself: each of the four walls turns a double return inward and each corner carries a gusset with a spoke folded flat back onto it, eight of them lying round the inside like the arms of a wheel. Nothing is glued and nothing is tucked, so the box is assembled by folding alone and comes apart flat again.
The doubled walls are the point. They give a shallow tray an unusually rigid rim, which is what lets it carry something heavy without the sides bowing. The trade-off is that the inside of every wall is a double thickness, so the usable interior is a little smaller than the outside suggests.
Because it is shallow and open, the base is the design surface and it is seen from directly above. Height is capped at half the smaller of the other two dimensions, so this will never be a deep box, and should not be specified as one. Gift sets, hamper bases, retail display trays and bakery platters are where it fits.
It folds flat again as easily as it goes up, which makes it the one tray here that can be reused — a display box that comes down at the end of a market day and goes back up the next. The eight spokes make the interior visually busy, so most users drop a plain or printed liner over the base rather than printing the floor of the box itself.
