What a flared food tray is for
A tray that opens out as it rises — 150 by 95 mm at the base and 215 by 150 at the mouth, on 52 mm walls. The flare is what makes it work for fries and nachos: the food spreads at the top where a hand reaches in, while the base stays small enough that the tray does not take over the counter.
It also means the trays nest, so a kitchen stores a thousand in the space a straight-sided tray would need for two hundred. For the design, remember the walls lean away from the viewer: a straight band printed across them reads as a curve when the tray is up, and the base is barely seen once there is food in it.
Everything about the board choice here is grease. Loaded fries, nachos with cheese and fried chicken all sit directly on it, so a coated or greaseproof stock is not optional if the print is to survive service. Burger bars, cinemas, sports grounds and street food traders are the volume buyers.
It has no lid, which decides where it can be used. On a counter, a table or a cinema seat it is ideal; in a delivery bag it needs a wrap or a bag around it, and anything with sauce will find its way out. If the food travels, specify a lidded box instead and keep the tray for what is eaten where it is bought.
