What a hexagon disc tray is for
A six-sided tray on a true regular hexagon, 404 mm across — the shape a whole cake or a full pizza is sold in. A wall stands on every edge, two of every other wall carry tuck flaps, and the three walls between fold up last to trap all six. No glue anywhere.
A hexagon wastes far less board than a circle and far less space than a square for the same round product, which is the whole argument for it. It also sits flat in a stack, which a round tray does not do reliably once it is loaded.
The base is the surface that counts, seen from above whenever the lid is off, and the six shallow walls read as a frame around it. On 1.5 mm E-flute it carries a full cake without flexing. Bakeries, patisseries, pizzerias and celebration-cake makers are the buyers.
At 404 mm across and only a shallow wall all round, it needs something over the top. A film wrap works for a pizza, a clear dome for a cake, and neither is part of the tray — so budget for the cover at the same time. Six shallow walls will not support a lid that presses down, which is why a dome rather than a flat lid is the usual answer.
