What a shaped disc tray is for
A long open tray cut away across each end so a hand goes into the dip: the long wall corner flaps fold in to make tall corners, and the half-height end wall finishes in a folded rim whose tongue locks down through the base. No glue.
The two dips are the point. A loaded tray of this size is awkward to pick up flat, and the cut-outs turn the ends into handles without adding anything to the blank. They also mean the end walls are half height, so the long walls do all the visual work.
At 309 by 202 mm on E-flute it is a sharing or service tray rather than a single portion. Deli counters, sharing platters, catering, buffet service and bakery display are where it is used, usually with a printed liner rather than a printed base.
The dips that make it easy to lift also make it impossible to seal. There is no flat rim for a film to stick to and no lid shaped to fit, so this is a buffet and counter tray, not a takeaway one. Where food has to be covered, it is covered on the tray with a cloth or a sheet rather than with anything fitted.
