What a side-interlocking tray is for
A deep tray that holds itself shut with no glue: each end folds up, turns over a 4 mm rim and comes back down inside itself, and the shoulders on that return drop into slots cut in the ends of the long walls. The rim is what makes it rigid and what makes it comfortable to hold.
At 310 by 202 by 61 mm it is the deepest tray in the range, which changes what it is for — this holds a filled meal, a stack of items or a full bakery order rather than a single portion. The long walls are tall enough for real artwork, unlike the shallow trays.
Because the lock is at the ends and the rim runs all the way round, it survives being carried one-handed when full, which is the test most glueless trays fail. Catering, takeaway meals, meal kits and bakery boxes without lids are the usual uses.
The 4 mm rim is the one dimension not to alter. It is what the shoulders drop into and what gives the tray its rigidity, so a tray asked for with a thinner rim loses both the lock and the stiffness that make it worth choosing. Change the length, the width and the depth freely, and leave the rim alone.
