What a mailer box with a window is for
A roll-end mailer with no glue and a rounded window cut half way across the lid. The front and back walls fold up and roll over on themselves, their inner tabs dropping into slots along the base crease, and the lid comes off one side wall with its three flaps raked back twenty degrees.
The window is the reason to choose this over a plain mailer: the product is visible on a shelf without the box being opened, which suits retail as much as shipping. It also constrains the design — half the lid is glazed, so the brand has to live on the remaining half or around the window rather than under it.
Note that the lid hinges off a side wall, not the back, so the box opens sideways. That changes which face is uppermost in a stack and where a seal or sticker should go. Gift sets, electronics, cosmetics and hamper packs are typical, especially where the contents are the selling point.
An open window is a hole, so for retail this needs a clear film patch applied over the cut. That is an extra process, an extra cost and, in some recycling streams, the thing that stops the box being accepted as card. If the box is only ever shipped and opened rather than displayed, consider leaving the window out and putting the product photograph on the lid instead.
