What a flat-mouth handbag is for
A square-bottomed carrier with a punched handle, 220 by 150 by 250 mm. The flat mouth and the boxy base are what distinguish it: it stands square when it is set down and the opening stays flat rather than gaping, so it looks tidy on a counter with the product inside.
The punched handle means there is no rope or ribbon to buy, fit or pay for — the bag is one piece of board and the handle is a cut. That makes it the cheapest presentable carrier in the range and the easiest to store flat.
Because it is upright and roughly A4 in the face, it takes a portrait design well and works for anything from a boutique purchase to a takeaway. Keep the area around the punch clear. Retail, gift shops, pharmacies, bakeries and event goody bags are the usual uses.
The punched handle is the limit on what it can carry. A die-cut hole in paper tears at a load a rope handle would hold without noticing, so this is a bag for light retail — a garment, a book, a couple of small boxes — rather than groceries or bottles. If the contents are heavy, the same shape is available with fitted handles and it is worth the difference.
