What a flat food bag is for
A flat sandwich and pastry bag — no gusset, no base. Two flaps lap over one another at the back and the bottom hem folds up to seal it, and the back stands a step proud of the front so it can be opened with a thumb while holding something in the other hand.
That step is the detail worth knowing about. Anyone who has tried to open a flat bag with greasy fingers knows why it is there, and it is the reason this shape survives in service where a plain envelope bag does not.
At 200 by 200 mm it is square, which means the design can be set either way up — but the back flap and the bottom hem both eat into the printable area, so keep the mark central. Sandwich counters, bakeries, cafés, takeaways and anywhere food is handed over in seconds.
Specify the paper for grease. A plain bag with a warm pastry or anything fried in it will go translucent where the food touches, and a pale design will change in front of the customer within a minute of being handed over. A greaseproof or lined stock costs a little more and keeps both the print and the bag intact for as long as it needs to last.
