What an 8 side seal pouch is for
Four webs of film and a separate base, sealed at eight points, with the two side panels tucked in as gussets and the bottom sealed flat. It stands square like a box rather than bulging like a pouch, and it carries a face on every side — front, back, two sides and a base.
That is five printable panels against the two a stand-up pouch gives you, and it is why premium coffee moved to this shape. The side gussets stay flat and visible rather than disappearing into the fill, so they will hold a roast date, an origin story or a repeated wordmark.
It is the most expensive pouch here and the most rigid. The eight seals are eight millimetres at every size, so the frame around each panel is constant and you can design to it. Speciality coffee, tea, premium pet food and gift food are where the extra cost is justified.
If it is holding coffee it needs a degassing valve. Fresh roast gives off carbon dioxide for days and a sealed pouch with no valve will swell and can burst a seam; the valve is a small disc welded to the front panel or a gusset. It is a fixed position in the artwork, so place it deliberately rather than discovering it sits in the middle of your logo.
