What a 3 side seal pouch is for
Two webs of film sealed together up both edges and across the top and bottom, leaving the fourth side open to fill. It is the flattest pouch there is, which makes it the cheapest to ship and the easiest to post — a sachet, a sample, a single serving or anything sold in a box of many.
It lies flat, so it has one front and one back and both are full-bleed printable with no gussets interrupting them. That is an advantage over any standing pouch: a photograph or a full-colour design runs edge to edge without a fold through the middle of it.
What it will not do is stand on a shelf. If the product has to face a customer in a retail aisle this is the wrong pouch; if it is sold in a carton, a multipack, by post or from behind a counter, it is the right one. Spice blends, coffee samples, supplements, sauces and single-serve anything.
Because there is no zipper, how the customer gets in matters. A pouch with no tear notch is opened with scissors, and one with a laser score opens cleanly in the hand — a small specification with a large effect on how the product feels. Ask for a notch or a score line on the top seal, and make sure the artwork leaves that corner clear of anything you would mind losing.
