What a gable box is for
The plain gable carton: one glue tab, four walls, a crash-lock base and two flat roofs that meet down the middle, with a die-cut handle formed by two panels folding back to stand face to face. No window, which makes it the cheaper and sturdier sibling of the window bakery box.
At 300 by 150 by 180 mm it is longer than it is deep, so it is a meal carrier rather than a cake box — a takeaway for two, a lunch set, a gift pack of several items. The two long side walls are the faces that get seen when it is carried, and they are the largest uninterrupted panels on the box.
The handle height comes off whichever of the length and width is smaller, so a wider box does not get a taller handle. Practically that means you should design the handle area as a fixed band and let the walls change around it. Takeaway kitchens, meal-kit senders, event caterers and gift packers all use this shape.
There is no lock beyond the ridge where the two roofs meet, so for delivery it needs something across the top. That is usually a sticker, and the ridge is exactly the right place for one: it crosses both roof panels, so breaking it is visible and the box cannot be opened quietly. Leave a clean band along the ridge in the artwork for it.
